The Hobie Alter fin, much like today’s Hobie board designs, upholds the enduring influence of classic noseriding while paying heed to functionality and maneuverability.

Hobie Alter was a legendary surfer, shaper, and businessman who grew up alongside the sport of surfing. He began shaping balsa wood boards as a teenager in 1950, opened up Hobie Surfboards–Southern California’s first surf shop–in 1954, and in 1958 he and his buddy Gordon Clark invented the polyurethane foam surfboard. Between his innovations and timeless designs, Alter left behind a real legacy in the surfboard industry.

The Hobie Alter is a true gem in our collection that will not disappoint. It features a full body, full foil, and some generous rake, making it very well-suited for traditional-style longboards. If you’re looking for a logging fin you can count on for smooth rides down the line, flowing turns, and some serious tip time, this fin is not to be overlooked.

  • Full body, full foil, and pronounced rake
  • Designed for logging and hanging ten, without sacrificing maneuverability
  • Solid fiberglass construction, gloss finish
