      About Wilderness

With deep roots in Santa Barbara history and culture, Wilderness Surfboards, created by George Greenough and Michael Cundith in 1966 was at the forefront of the shortboard revolution. Simultaneously opening its doors in Angourie, Australia, Wilderness became known for integrating Greenough’s futuristic kneeboard designs into surfboards for stand-up surfers. Joining the Wilderness team in the late 60s was Richie West, a ripping stubby surfer hailing from Santa Barbara, Dan Hazard, and its current owner Bob Duncan. By testing and improving on original board design while keeping true to the Greenough bottom shapes, Duncan and friends evolved and perfected an original design coming straight out of our hometown here in Santa Barbara. The Greenough Stage 6 and Wilderness fin are perfect complements to stubby-styled designs and have stayed true to the evolution and legacy of Greenough’s foil and flex technologies.
