Barrett Miller's 'I'iwi Twin Fins
There's a lot of good twin fins out there, but these are the perfect happy medium.
Capistrano Beach board builder and surfer, Barrett Miller, breaks down his new True Ames 'I'Iwi twin fins, paired with some stylish sampling of them in some south swell waves.
Barrett explains they have "Enough rake and height to hold in bigger waves, but not too much base. I was finding that the release I was getting from the narrower tips felt way more lively. Flat foil on the inside. Way faster and more lively than a 70-30 or a 80-20 or a 50-50".
"Anytime you got V in the board, I just feel like a flat foil on the inside is the way. You get that ball bearing effect where the water is bouncing off the V in between the fins and give it tons of drive and projection up the face".
"Easy to redirect too with all that narrow tip and the rake and it's not too full of a template, so it's easy to whip it around. You can slide the fins easily, but bring it back with control".
Don't ask where we got the template from...
