The McCallum Keel is Jeff's modern interpretation of a classic fin keel design. This set has a traditional keel fin base length, but also features some added rake as well as overall reduced surface area. With a somewhat narrow tip and less wetted surface, it allows for greater performance and more release compared to a classic keel fin. This design pairs well with wider tailed and fishy type craft.

  • Ideal for both classic to more modern twin fin boards, the McCallum Keel provides some of the traditional feel and drive of a standard keel fin, while the lower surface area allows for release.

Jeff McCallum is a highly respected shaper based in San Diego, known for his handcrafted surfboards that beautifully combine classic retro designs with contemporary performance features. Interestingly, Jeff's shaping journey began far from the ocean waves of the Pacific. Originally from Denver, he moved to San Diego at the age of 18 and started his career under the guidance of the esteemed shaper Chris Christenson. He diligently learned every aspect of surfboard construction, from the initial shaping to the final polishing, which provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the craft.

Heavily influenced by surfing legends like Skip Frye, Bob Simmons, and George Greenough, Jeff incorporates their wisdom while continuously innovating surfboard designs that are both straightforward and cutting-edge. For Jeff, shaping is a blend of artistry and functionality, which has led to collaborations on unique designs with iconic surfers.

Today, McCallum surfboards are sought after by surf enthusiasts globally, including in Japan, Australia, and Europe. Jeff remains dedicated to exploring new creative possibilities in shaping while upholding the valuable traditions of handcrafted quality.
