Greenough Switch Hitter

A Real Greenough vs Greenough Dogfight

Perhaps our most appropriate Switch Hitter to date. Two fins from Greenough, the man behind a continual evolution of wave-riding innovations that are widely attributed for paving the way from traditional longboarding to high-performance surfing in the pocket.

This dogfight is between the Power Glide 45 and the High Speed. And what better board to test in than an Ellis Ericson board, paying homage to George Greenough's edge bottom design.

Power Glide 45

It only felt right to start with the Power Glide 45, the newest design in our continually evolving Greenough collection.

Built upon the Power Blade, the Power Glide is refined to be more approachable and user-friendly fin that is ready for a wider range of applications.

The Power Blade incorporates more rake, area, flex, and softer curves.

The ‘45’ in the name of this design refers to the rake which appears as if it is approaching a 45° angle

"It's really exciting to think about loading up the fin on a bottom turn and then letting it project you and all of the speed that you get.

It's quite different than maybe the traditional fin feeling, so I felt like pairing that with this board worked well.I had a couple moments where I was like really able to get onto the edge and feel the flex of the fin and use that to my benefit.

This is the most drastic of changes and feelings that I've felt in a board and I appreciated that".

High Speed

Greenough originally designed the High Speed to accompany his “Edge” boards. This fin works in all conditions, and prevails well in powerful surf. Evolved and been proven by many to work wonderfully in a wide variety of board types–from mid-lengths to gliders, and everything in between.

"This fin opened the board right up and allowed have all the freedom to maneuver the board and pivot a little bit more.

I didn't have to try and put as much power and force into it.

I could use that speed to engage the edge you the edge in the board and the wide tail would just like swoop and carry that speed all the way through the end of the turn and that felt amazing".
